Faculty unit staff will benefit from an overall increase of 5% at June 30, an overall increase of 2% on July 1, 2017 and an overall increase of 3.5% on July 1, 2017. The agreement also provides for a 2.65 percent increase in service pay for all eligible employees in the faculty unit in the 2017-18 fiscal year. The agreement, which includes approximately 26,000 teachers, trainers, librarians and advisors on the 23 CSU campuses, is valid until June 30, 2018. CFA is the largest group of workers represented by the CSU. The new agreements were negotiated on the basis of the “fair play” clauses in each working group`s collective agreement. The CSU is continuing negotiations with two other groups of workers that have current collective agreements, which also contain “fair” clauses. Negotiations continue with the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) and the State Employees Trade Council (SETC). The rights and obligations of the faculty as a collaborator of the University of Capilano are mainly found in our collective agreement and related agreements (see link below). Some of our rights are set out in a document called the Joint Agreement (also below).

This committee continues to address issues such as the placement of ladders and job descriptions. It has not yet agreed on changes to the collective agreement. Following negotiations on the new collective agreement, the union signed a Memorandum of Understanding with capilano University on 23 May 2015. This memorandum (attached above) outlines all the changes made to the previous agreement. Highlights can be made in the latest 2015 trading bulletin. The new wage scales, which include a 5.5% increase by the end of 2018/2019, are on page 5 of the memorandum. The ratification of the CFA agreement also triggers the implementation of new Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) with the California State University Employees Union (CSUEU) and the Academic Professionals of California (APC). Following the new general meetings, the rate units of the CSUEU and the APC will benefit from a general salary increase of 3% on 1 July 2016 and an overall increase of 2% at 30 June 2017. In the spring of 2016, the Joint Committee on Regulation agreed on a question of interpretation of the existing rules of the agreement. The question dealt with two rules: one to trigger the regularization of non-regulators and the other for the “increase” of normal part-time faculty to a greater number of regular sections.

The agreement removed a barrier to the restriction of the basic section that prevented regularization or reloading if the total number of regular sections of the department was thus greater than the “base number”. The number of basic sections is a number of sections that the administration cannot remove from a department without consulting the department. The collective agreement is specific to the University of Capilano and the CFA.
