$3 million in new donations announced at close of 2015

The David and Lucile Packard Foundation and Sunlight Giving both announced major donations in support of the Women and Children’s Center in 2015, closing a second strong year of fundraising for the project.

The Packard Foundation, one of the most respected philanthropic institutions in the United States, announced a $ 1 million gift in support of the overall $25 million fundraising goal.

“Obviously a gift of the size represents a huge step forward in our campaign. With the Packard Foundation comes not only a sizable donation, but validation that our project is worthy of support. Their support is definitely causing other potential funders to take notice, ” said VMC Foundation CEO Chris Wilder

The Sunlight Giving Foundation, a local, private foundation that focuses on the needs of highly vulnerable populations, made a $2 million gift in support of the new Mother and Baby Center that will occupy the entire 4th floor of the Women and Children’s Center.

“We are so excited to have Sunlight Giving as partners,” said Wilder.  “They are smart, savvy and bring a lot of new energy to the world of philanthropy, and we are honored to among their first grantees.”

Total fundraising is nearing the $9 million level, marking the most ever raised for a VMC Foundation capital campaign in the organizations 30 year history.

“Work is already starting,” said Wilder.  “We need to reach our goal, but we are putting the money we have into action now.”
